Let’s be honest: chicken coops are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick dust, constant humidity, and the inevitable splash from a waterer that just won’t stay put. If you’ve used standard infrared heaters in a barn, you know the drill—they burn out way too fast. It’s frustrating. That’s why we built our Waterproof infrared series. We wanted to stop moisture from ever touching the electrical contacts or the heating element in the first place. Why these heaters actually last Usually, moisture kills a lamp in two ways. Either it shorts out the terminals or it causes “thermal shock” on the quartz glass. We solved this with a sealed housing. It basically acts like a shield, pushing water runoff away from those R7s or Sk15 connectors. By keeping the wiring isolated from the damp air, you don’t have to deal with those annoying, premature fuse blows. Then there’s the fog. When freezing cold air hits a hot lamp, you get condensation. Without a fix, those little water droplets create cold spots on the tube. The glass expands and contracts unevenly, and—snap—the tube cracks. We added an anti-fog coating to keep the heat spread evenly across the surface. No droplets, no cracks. A quick heads-up on installation Here’s the thing: more protection usually means less airflow. Because our design is splash-proof, it traps a bit more heat around the socket. Just make sure you give your mounting brackets some breathing room. Space them out correctly so you don’t accidentally melt the plastic housing. Real-world results When you’re wiring these into your coop, you can actually place them closer to the brooding area. You don’t have to stress about wet bedding or a spilled bucket of water. We’ve seen these units last three times longer than the open-element lamps used in the same barns. It really just comes down to keeping the electricity dry and the glass clean. If you’re running a high-humidity barn, these are the only tubes that will actually make it through the season.
