Here is the thing about infrared heaters: they don’t bother warming up the air. Instead, they beam heat directly onto you and the things around you. It’s a much faster way to get warm, especially in a bathroom where the cold air usually wins. But to make it actually feel cozy without wasting a ton of electricity, you have to get the wattage right for your space. Picking the right power If you’ve got a tiny bathroom—we’re talking under 4m²—don’t overthink it. A single 400W to 600W lamp is usually plenty. If you go too big here, the room will get way too hot, the heater will keep clicking on and off, and you’ll burn through the lamp way faster than you should. For those mid-sized bathrooms (between 4m² and 8m²), you’ll probably want something in the 800W to 1200W range. Then you have the big rooms or places with those fancy high ceilings. You’ll likely need 1500W or more. But keep in mind that materials matter. If your walls are covered in marble or heavy ceramic tiles, those surfaces act like sponges for heat. They soak it all up. In a room like that, you’ll want a bit more power to get past that initial chill. The technical side (kept simple) You’ll see “IP65” on the label. All that really means is that the insides are sealed tight so water and dust can’t get in. It’s a lifesaver for bathrooms, but sealing things up can trap heat inside the unit. That’s why we use aluminum heat sinks—they pull the heat away from the electronics so nothing fries. One quick tip: if you’re installing a heavy-duty 2000W system in a tight spot, double-check your wiring. You need a gauge that can handle the current, or you risk overheating the insulation. Not a great feeling. Saving a bit of cash The temptation is to just buy the biggest heater available and call it a day. Don’t do that. Instead, try a tiered approach. Grab a medium-wattage lamp and pair it with a motion sensor or a timer. That way, the heater isn’t blasting away at full tilt while the room is empty. It’s a simple move, but it keeps your circuit breaker happy and keeps your power bill from spiking at the end of the month.
