Those old bulbsbasically try to heat up all the air in the room. They’re blindingly bright and take forever to make you feel warm. Infrared is different. It doesn’t care about the air; it goes straight for your skin. The second you flip the switch, you feel it. It’s an instant, deep warmth. We use short-wave emitters because they pack a huge punch of heat into a tiny space—perfect for when you’re stepping out of a shower or standing at the vanity. A couple of things to keep in mind before you install one. First, don’t try to cheat the wiring. These units pull a lot of power to get that instant heat, so you can’t just plug them into an extension cord and hope for the best. You’ll need a dedicated circuit and the right breakers to keep everything safe. Also, a word of warning: the front grille getshot. Really hot. Since it’s a waterproof unit, you don’t have to worry about the steam, but you do have to worry about where you mount it. Put it high enough so nobody accidentally leans against it or touches the element. Stick to the voltage specs, give it some breathing room, and you’ve got a heater that actually does its job without dying on you.
