Here is a little secret about ceiling-mounted infrared heaters: it’s rarely the heating element that gives out. Usually, the element is fine. The real culprit? The lead wires. When you hang a heater overhead, heat doesn’t just go down—it pools right around the electrical connections. If the assembly is cheap, those junctions are basically left wide open. The heat cooks the insulation until it gets brittle, cracks, and then—pop—you’ve got a dead short. The “Cooked Wire” Problem Standard wiring just isn’t built for this. We’re talking about ambient temperatures hitting 200°C+ right next to the quartz tube. In a lot of budget units, the seal between the wire and the heater is just some basic glue or a loose sleeve. It feels fine at first. But over time, that heat bakes the PVC or silicone cladding. It shrinks. It splits. Then, one little vibration or a slight shift in the ceiling mount exposes the bare copper, and your heater is toast. How We Do Things Differently We decided to stop relying on basic adhesives. Instead, we use a high-temp potting compound and a solid mechanical crimp. Think of it as a permanent, airtight lock. It keeps the moisture out and stops the wires from wiggling around as they heat up and cool down. The result? A connection that actually lasts. We’ve spec’d these seals to handle heat that would literally melt the glue used in standard industrial setups. It just works. One Small Catch Because we’re using a heavy-duty seal, the wires are a bit stiff. You can’t just bend them into a sharp angle to cram them into a tiny junction box. If you force it, you might crack the seal, which defeats the whole purpose. Just give the wires some room to breathe. Give them a bit of slack during installation, and they’ll take care of you for a long time.
